| All praises and thanks are due to Allah
(SWT), and may His peace and blessings be upon His last and Final
Prophet to humanity, all of the Prophets sent from Allah, The Holy
Prophet Muhammed (SAW) and His blessed companions, and those whom
Allah (SWT) has blessed to practically uphold their guidance until
the Day of Judgment. It is the Lord,
Allah (SWT) who is entirely worthy of all praises and thanks. It is
He who has given us guidance through the Prophets that he had sent
to humanity, ordering us to be thankful and warning us from being
unthankful.
Allah (SWT) says in the Quran:

Therefore remember Me (by praying, glorifying, etc.).[]
I will remember you, and be grateful to Me (for My countless Favors
on you) and never be ungrateful to Me.
The violent love of this world has indeed
corrupted and infested our hearts, our continuous pursuit for
fulfillment of desires hoping to achieve satisfaction has made us
even more unsatisfied, our trust in Allah is only verbal or really
weak, and the whole point of thankfulness to Allah is to achieve a
life that balances the mind and body and makes us satisfied granting
us peace and contentment.
In the final Hajj of our Holy Prophet
Muhammed (SAW), when the Muslims reached high numbers and Makkah was
peacefully conquered, the Holy Prophet (SAW) warned them from
becoming proud and overjoyed by the manifestation of their strength
and power because everything was just transitory, and he said "O
Allah, there is no life but the life of the Hereafter."
We have to live in this life and be thankful
for even the smallest blessings of Allah (SWT), in order that we
live in this world with a higher aim that merely earning a few extra
dollars, and our life should be to seek the hereafter.
Our bodies that were created from the
material of this earth, urges us to have more and more but all of
this never permanently satisfies our souls, the soul that was
created and granted to us direct from Allah (SWT) will only achieve
solid and permanent contentment when we drink from the fountain of
faith, our hearts yearn to meet Allah (SWT) and we are always in a
state where we have hope in Allah, we are thankful to Allah and we
repent for the sins we have committed.
We must live our lives and achieve peace and
contentment no matter how many worries we think we have.
A great scholar was eloquently said: "Can
you picture yourself walking without feet? Should you take it light
that you slumber soundly while misery hinders the sleep of
many? Should you forget that you fill yourself with both delicious
dishes and cool water while the pleasure of good food and drink is
impossible for some, due to sickness or disease? Consider the
faculties of hearing and seeing with which you have been endowed.
Look at your healthy skin and be grateful that you have been saved
from diseases that attack it. Reflect on your powers of
reasoning and remember those that suffer from mental ailments.

And He gave you of all that you asked for, and if you count the
Blessings of Allâh, never will you be able to count them. Verily!
Man is indeed an extreme wrong-doer, - a disbeliever
Look at the most basic necessities and be
thankful. Is it not enough that Allah is our Lord? Who always
provides even though we forget? Who has always nourished us from a
time that we were helpless child and were fully reliant on his
mercy. Who has sent us 124,000 Prophets, He has given the Quran as
the light house of guidance and the Holy Prophet who holds the hands
of those who follow him in achieving guidance.
Our pursuit in life must be for the
hereafter. How much did the Prophet Muhammed (SAW) have in a
materialistic sense? Do you really think that if we don't have this
or that or we did not achieve this or that, that we are more beloved
then the Prophet in the sight of Allah?
The key to achieving tranquility and harmony
of a balanced heart, mind and body is that we look at those who are
below us materialistically and we forget about those who are above
us.
Even those who are above us, no matter how
wealthy are never fully satisfied with the wealth they have and this
is why the rich normally most of the time are afflicted with
diseases, are unable to sleep peacefully in the night with worry
about the situation of their wealth, they are those who are always
rushing after something that really will never end.
If you want more sincerely thank Allah (SWT)
and I guarantee that which you thank Allah for, Allah will bless you
and increase you.

And (remember) when your Lord proclaimed: "If
you give thanks (by accepting Faith and worshipping none but Allâh),
I will give you more (of My Blessings), but if you are thankless
(i.e. disbelievers), verily! My Punishment is indeed severe."

Say it is He Who has created you, and endowed
you with hearing (ears), seeing (eyes), and hearts. Little thanks
you give.
There is no point to waste our entire lives
being unthankful to Allah. Thankfulness is not something that is
abstract or merely an idea, it is practical and requires our
efforts. No matter how much we feel devastated from the calamities
of life, we must be patient and thankful to Allah.
Thank Allah that He is your Lord and has
chosen Islam for you as your religion, thank Allah for body that you
have, for the food that you eat, for your spouse, for your children,
for your parents, for your wealth, and for each and everything even
something insignificant as a glass of water. As the Prophet (SAW)
said: "Whosoever is not thankful with a little won't be thankful
with a lot."
Allah takes away his blessings from those
who are not thankful, the blessing of iman, of health and wealth.
When we are unthankful we basically dig our own graves and our
blessings are taken away from us, as the great companion of the
Prophet Ali (RA) once said: "Do not let your thanklessness drive
away even the least of your blessings."
The practical steps that we could take to be
thankful include:
- Obedience and
Submission to the Lord's command
- Our adherence
to the way of our Holy Prophet Muhammed (SAW)
- Practically
moistening our tongues with Allah's remembrance, which include
saying "Subhanallah", "Al-hamdullah" and "Allahuakbar"
- Take some time
to visit the sick, the disabled and the terminally ill, believe
me it will rush faith to your heart!
- Reading and
contemplating the supplications that our Prophet use to read in
the morning, evening and after every prayer.
- Appreciating
and being thankful to your spouse, your parents, your family,
your friends for even the smallest favor as the Holy Prophet
(SAW) beautifully illustrated: "Whosoever is not thankful to
people is not thankful to Allah."
- Making Dua to
Allah by supplicating that He makes us thankful. Even our
Prophet (SAW) use to supplicate by saying, "O Allah! I ask
thee... for a grateful heart."
- Instead of worrying about our
coffee break at work, if you want satisfaction read 2 rakaah and
be thankful to Allah, as the Prophet (SAW has taught us that
every joint must be thank Allah each and every day.
