Friday Khutbah by Daanish Ansari on Friday December 16, 2005 at Humber
College.
All Praises are due to Allah (SWT), the Supreme Lord of this Universe, the Giver
and Taker of life, the One who has created us from a single seed in the mother’s
womb while we were in a state of helplessness, the one who has granted us our
lives to be obedient and to worship none but Him, and the one who will cause us
to die while we will be in the state of helplessness.
I offer such praise and gratitude to the Supreme Lord of this universe, Allah (SWT)
that is deserving of His Supreme Being and Magnificent Sovereignty.
Whomsoever Allah (SWT) has enabled, illustrated, and enlightened with guidance,
whose heart has been wide opened with guidance, whomsoever has selected and has
chosen the path of guidance, there is none that can misguide.
Whomsoever Allah (SWT) has sealed, locked, jailed and imprisoned the hearts of
in the clutches misguidance, whose eyes has been closed from all sight, whose
ears are unable to hear the kalam of Allah (SWT) and the noble guidance of His
Messenger (SAW), whose life has been strayed, the individual who has selected
and has chosen the path of misguidance, then there is absolutely none who can
guide.
I testify bear witness, I attest, and I fully testify that no has the right to
be worshiped except Allah (SWT), He is alone, the One and Only, the One who has
clearly made the straight path distinct from the path of crookedness, just as
the night has been clearly distinguished from the Day. There is absolutely no
individual, whether handicapped or whether blind, who cannot tell the difference
between night and day. Likewise it is Allah (SWT), the Supreme Lord of this
Universe, who has clearly distinguished guidance from misguidance, haaq from
baatil, good from bad, and righteousness from evil.
As Allah (SWT), the Giver of guidance has said in the Holy Quran:

And whomsoever Allâh wills to guide, He opens his breast to Islâm, and
whomsoever He wills to send astray, He makes his breast closed and constricted,
as if he is climbing up to the sky. Thus Allâh puts the wrath on those who
believe not
I bear witness, I attest, and fully testify that the Prophet Muhammed (SAW) is
his Last and final Messenger. The best of all guidance, the highest of all
creation, the one chosen by Allah (SWT) to represent and exemplify the very
precious Quran in his life. For verily, by following the guidance of Rasullullah
(SAW), we are increasing our nearness to Allah (SWT). By striving and struggling
to follow the guidance of Allah’s Messenger, Rasullullah (SAW) by upholding the
flag of haq, we are bringing and extinguishing the darkness of our lives to the
light.
I Ask Allah the Supreme Lord, the Giver and Taker of Life, the Most Merciful to
those who deserve his Mercy, to abundantly shower his peace and blessings upon
his last and final Prophet, His noble and courageous Companions, and upon those
whom Allah (SWT) has honoured to follow their guidance until the Day of
Judgment.
Allah (SWT) has stated in his Book,

Say (O Muhammad SAW to mankind): "If you (really) love Allâh then follow me,
Allâh will love you and forgive you of your sins. And Allâh is Oft-Forgiving,
Most Merciful."
Brothers and Sisters, do we not want to earn Allah (SWT) pleasure? Do we not
want to live by the guidance ordained upon us by Allah (SWT) and clearly and
distinguishly exemplified for us in the guidance of His Messenger (SAW)?
Let us reflect and concentrate upon the time that we will off from college when
we near our winter holidays.
Brothers and Sisters, let us realize that Allah (SWT) has made time a precious
pearl for us. For every second, minute, day, month and year that passes by is
precious.
For if we want to realize how precious time is, how precious the value of ONE
YEAR is, we must ask a student who has failed a grade. To realize the value of
ONE MONTH, we must ask a mother who has given birth to a pre-mature baby. To
realize the value of ONE WEEK, we must ask an editor of a weekly newspaper. To
realize the value of ONE DAY, let us ask a daily wage laborer who has kids to
feed. To realize the value of ONE HOUR, we must ask a husband and wife who are
waiting to meet. To realize the value of ONE MINUTE, ask a person who has missed
a bus. To realize the value of ONE SECOND, let us ask a person who has just
avoided an accident. To realize the value of ONE MILLI-SECOND, let us ask the
person who has won a silver medal in the Olympics. To realize the value of this
life, let us ask the one who is on death row, the night before his execution,
when he is near to his death. And Finally, to realize the value of this deen, to
realize the value of Allah (SWT)’s guidance when it deeply enroots the hearts,
we must ask the one who has died and has been resurrected to his hereafter.

And if you only could see when the Mujriműn (criminals, disbelievers,
polytheists, sinners, etc.) shall hang their heads before their Lord (saying):
"Our Lord! We have now seen and heard, so send us back (to the world), we will
do righteous good deeds. Verily! We now believe with certainty."
Brothers and Sisters, we must value our time and every opportunity that Allah (SWT)
provides with. If we are passing through this life, while we are living in this
world let us utilize the time that Allah (SWT) has provided us with. If we are
studying at school, performing our jobs or business, pursuing our careers, let
us never live in a state of ghaflah, in a state of forgetfulness when it comes
to our eternal career. When it comes to Allah (SWT) and the guidance of his
Messenger (SAW).
We must live in this world with full remembrance of Allah (SWT). We must
undertake every opportunity given to us by Allah (SWT) to increase our
understanding, knowledge, and wisdom of His Book and of the pure life and
guidance of His Messenger (SAW). We must take every night that Allah (SWT) gives
us, and take advantage of the opportunity to shed our tears, to feel a deep
remose and guilt in our hearts for the life of disobedience that we are living
when it comes to the commandments of the Supreme Lord of this universe, the Most
Gracious, the Creator, Allah (SWT).
This is what I mean, when I urge and plea to myself and to you, for us to
utilize and take benefit of our time.
Allah’s Messenger (SAW) once said: “There are two blessings which many people
loose, there are health and free time for doing good.”
Therefore when we are blessed by Allah (SWT) and we are granted free time from
our daily routines to sit down, and reassess, revaluate, and reinvestigate
ourselves and our current situation when it comes to our relationship with Allah
(SWT), time is precious and verily it is a blessing of Allah (SWT).
Every group has a guide; every class has a textbook and every class has teacher,
likewise in this life, in order for us to be righteous and guided, our textbook
must be the precious guidance of the Holy Quran and our Teacher must be the
precious and our beloved Prophet, Allah’s Messenger, Rasullulah (SAW).
For we must take opportunity of the time that Allah (SWT) provides us with, we
must take from this young age that Allah (SWT) has given us, while our bodies
and minds are strong, while our abilities are high, we must take from our young
age for the time that we might reach if we live long enough, that we will face
old age, that we will be helpless, and the very minds, abilities, bodies that
Allah (SWT) has given us will no longer hold the same value, will no longer have
the same capability that we currently have.
PART 2
Praise be to Allah (SWT) the giver and taker of life, the One who puts the souls
in to the bodies, the one who has created us from dust and will bring us back
and resurrect us from dust.
May he abundantly shower his peace and immense blessings upon his last and final
Prophet, Allah’s Messenger (SAW), His pure family and noble companions who
strived with him to uphold the haq, the truth of La illah ha illah, and those
upon whom Allah has blessed and honoured to follow their guidance until the day
of Judgement.
Brothers and Sisters, time is precious, this very life that we are currently
passing through whether with our eyes opened or our eyes closed is precious,
whether we remember Allah or whether we forget Allah, we will one day die, and
be buried in the total darkness in the ground.
Therefore, in order for us to be successful, we must and utilize this precious
time given to us by Allah (SWT) in order for us to take from this very life that
we are passing through and to prepare for the inevitable moment of death.
We must constantly live and struggle for the time, when we will face the angle
of death and our throats will choke with the very souls that our bodies possess.
And warn them (O Muhammad SAW) of the Day that is drawing near, when the hearts
will be choking the throats, and they can neither return them (there hearts) to
their chests nor can they throw them out. There will be no friend, nor an
intercessor for the Zâliműn (those who lived in disobedience to Allah and His
Messenger (SAW), however they never repented), who could be given heed to.
This is why 'Abdullah bin 'Umar (RA), the pious son of Umar bin Al-Khattab (RA)
once said, "Allah's Apostle took hold of my shoulder and said, 'Be in this world
as if you were a stranger or a traveler." The sub-narrator added: Ibn 'Umar used
to say, "If you survive till the evening, do not expect to be alive in the
morning, and if you survive till the morning, do not expect to be alive in the
evening, and take from your health for your sickness, and (take) from your life
for your death."
Brothers and Sisters our time is precious, we must take every opportunity that
Allah (SWT) has granted us with in order for us to utilize our time. We must
remember that Paradise is surrounded by hardships, striving, struggle, and
difficulties and that the eternal fire of hell will be the abode of those who
get locked in to the clutches of evil, who get caught up in the clutches of
temptations and desires.
When Allah (SWT) created Paradise, he informed His Angel, Jibraeel (AS) to go
and look at it. Jibraeel (AS) said to Allah, “By your Glory, no-one will hear of
it without entering it.” Then Allah (SWT) surrounded Paradise with hardships and
difficulties, and informed Jibraeel to go back, and Jibraeel (AS) then said to
Allah (SWT), “By Your Glory, I fear that no-one will enter it.”
Allah (SWT) created hell and likewise Jiraeel (AS) said, “By Your glory, no-one
who hears of it will enter it.” Then Allah (SWT) ordered that it be surrounded
with desires and temptations, then finally Jibraeel (AS) said: “By your Glory, I
fear that no-one will escape from entering it.”
I pray to Allah (SWT) to reward you to take the time out to sit and listen to
his kalam, I pray to Allah (SWT) to the advice that I have given to be a
guidance first for my self and a guidance to you, I pray to Allah (SWT) to grant
you and my self a successful life upon his deen and to grant us a successful
life in the hereafter fully enveloped in his mercy. Truly, it is Allah (SWT) who
is the All-Forgiver and the Most Merciful to the one who strives for his mercy,
for verily Allah (SWT) said:

It is He Who has sent His Messenger (Muhammad SAW) with guidance and the
religion of truth (Islâm), to make it superior over all religions even though
the Mushrikűn (polytheists, pagans, idolaters, disbelievers in the Oneness of
Allâh) hate (it).
