How can we defend ourselves against the devil

    By: T. Ansari

First it is important to realize that he is your enemy, and how, and why he became your enemy, because you should know that you are having a war, and the enemy is so strong that he will keep you in hell for eternity. And this enemy, Shaytan (Satan) can come through your wife, husband, father, mother, brother, sister, relative, neighbor, friend, culture, customs, TV, radio, magazines, from your work place, ect. Now one should realize he or she can be bit by Shaytan (Satan) anywhere.

Most of the time, Shaytan (Satan) comes through the eyes, when one sees something which is against the will of Allah, Shaytan (Satan) makes it very attractive for you, and makes your feelings very high, in order to involve you in to anything against the will of Allah. Which can be in decorating you house, getting ready, going in the market place, buying a vehicle. Now lets realize few examples, decorating your house, Shaytan (Satan) gives you so many ideas, and you never think that if this is according to the will of Allah or not, we are only thinking that when people come in to the house, they will say a few words regarding your taste, decoration, and what a great job has been done. However because of a few visitors, we buy so many unnecessary things to decorate our house, which is really not needed, and the bad part is involvement in loans. If any poor person asks for any help, we will say that we have no money to give, but money is available for unnecessary things. After this action, it is take us to hell, this disease is being spread to others, and whomever appreciating your house decoration, or look of the house, then they will try there level best to acquire it to. Regardless it ends up in divorce, arguments, and fights. And we are getting the share also because, this fight first occurred because of us.

    arabic
Shaitân (Satan) threatens you with poverty and orders you to commit Fahshâ (evil deeds, illegal sexual intercourse, sins etc.); whereas Allâh promises you Forgiveness from Himself and Bounty, and Allâh is All-Sufficient for His creatures' needs, All-Knower. (2:268)

Another example is that of getting ready, when we are getting ready we want to make sure we look best in society, amongst anyone regardless he or she, and we will be appreciated by everyone. And we want to look like a non-believer, who are known to be brilliant and smart today regardless if we burn in hell for eternity. If anyone starts a un-Islamic fashion, which is against the will of Allah, and whoever follows that fashion and appreciates the look, you will be responsible for spreading the disease of fashion which was created by Satan (Shaytan), and more Muslims are being involved, and whoever involves or starts, he or she will be punished, and get a share of the punishment of the followers, as long as your un-Islamic fashion is being followed.

Or buying a vehicle, jewelry, or any other materialistic thing, which is unnecessary this is also leading us towards the Satanic way, to spend in unnecessary things.

What is learned from the things mentioned above, that we should watch ourselves, and our daily affairs lifestyles, if it is not according to the law of Allah, then naturally we are following Shaytan (Satan).

The way to defend yourself is to seek refuge from Allah against the cursed Shaytan (Satan), and this is to be done before any action, Allah says in the Quran to seek refuge from Shaytan (Satan) before reciting the Quran.

The Quran is the way of life, so if one seeks refuge from Shaytan (Satan) in there lifestyles, they will come closer and closer to Allah. Allah guarantees that if anyone is in touch with Allah, Shaytan (Satan) will never come close, this means that we have to be in touch with Allah always, even if we are doing worldly matters, going shopping for example.

In human beings there is no one stronger then our noble Prophet (SAW), against Shaytan (Satan), and what was his action? Read Dua before performing any actions, for example reading dua before going to the restroom, or there is a dua after coming out of the restroom, or the change one's clothes, or when one is looking in the mirror, before eating there is a dua, when finishing there is a dua, when you like someone's clothes there is a dua, when going shopping there is a dua, when traveling there is a dua, when coming home from traveling there is a dua, on the news of someone's death there is a dua, when appreciating something, or for future plans there is a dua. The attitude and behavior of a Muslim, should always be according to the action of our Noble Prophet (SAW), so Shaytan (Satan) knows who you are part of, and there is no way he will attack you, and inshallah you will be saved, your family, and your generations.
